Trudy (GLIS ’70) and Ronald Kosey
For Trudy (GLIS ’70) and Ronald Kosey, athletics is a way of life. These Washington, Pa. natives met at a Broncos League baseball game back in 1975, and they’ve continued their love for sports by becoming ardent supporters of Pitt athletics. As avid fans of Pitt sports, Trudy and Ronald travel to Pittsburgh several times a week to cheer for the Panthers at events including football, men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, and volleyball.
Through their involvement with the Pitt Alumni Association and the Athletics Department, the Koseys were inspired to make a long-term investment at the University.
“When I retired in 1996, I decided I wanted to give back to the University that gave me the opportunity to earn a college degree,” said Trudy. “Without that degree, I wouldn’t have been able to work in the Chartiers-Houston School District as a librarian for more than 30 years.”
Their commitment to supporting Pitt athletics led them to establish the Trudy and Ronald Kosey Scholarship for Wrestling.
“Ron and I are both from Washington, Pa., and wrestling is a very popular sport here, so we decided that our endowment should support the education of a Pitt wrestler,” said Trudy.
Trudy and Ronald made their gift to the University through a gift of a life insurance policy.
“We chose to make our planned gift through a life insurance policy because of its significant benefits,” said Trudy. “We make a single annual payment for the life insurance policy and that one payment provides us with tax deductions and allows us to maintain our donation points for season tickets. When I die, the University will receive $100,000 to establish an endowment to support the education of Pitt wrestlers. I am happy that this gift of a life insurance policy will allow my husband and me the privilege of helping student-athletes in perpetuity.”
